The Situation:
Large manufacturer or paper machine technology was in jeopardy of losing a major customer due to their inability to meet the delivery requirements of the customer.
The Driver Goal:
- Migrate plant culture from one of individual efficiency to one of schedule attainment
- Increase productivity by 5% in four months
Actions Taken:
- Developed and implemented a Goal Roll Down and Translation process
- Created and installed a System for Managing
- Designed and conducted Supervisory/Management Training Workshops on use of the System for Managing
- Initiated a formal communication program between management and the union that facilitated daily meetings between the plant management and union
- Implemented a Change Management program and a Barrier Identification and Elimination process for all levels of the organization
The Results:
- Achieved 90% schedule attainment
- Achieved 93% on time delivery
- Improved productivity by 10% in four months
- Reduced work in progress inventories by 52%
- Retained customer
